Ingredients

  • 1 box cake mix

  • 1 box frosting

  • eggs

  • vegetable oil

  • 1 cup water

  • fondants of your choice

  • decorating icings

  • food coloring

Directions

  • Preheat the pan to 350°F for dark or nonstick pans. For oven preheat oven to 325°F.
  • Using baking spray or flour, coat the bottom and sides of two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans.
  • Mix 1 cup water, the oil, the eggs and the cake mix as stated on the package.
Bake the cake after that, wait 10 minutes. Transfer the cake from the pans to the racks. Allow 1 hour to cool completely. For easy handling, chill or freeze for 30 to 60 minutes.
  • For body, cut the cake so that you’ll get a somewhat oval-shape piece to make the main dino-body. Place your body on the tray. Cut the head, tail and leg pieces from the leftover cake. Attach the head, tail and leg pieces to the body with cream.
  • Pour frosting into a large mixing bowl. Add enough food coloring to achieve the desired color. To seal in crumbs, spread a thin layer of frosting over the cake pieces. To solidify the frosting, chill or freeze the cake for 30 to 60 minutes.
With the remaining frosting, frost the cake pieces. Make little bits that can be used as decorations.
  • You can skip step 4 by covering the cake with fondant if you want
  • For the spikes on the dinosaur’s back, use chocolate fondants. To make the eyes, use two candy-coated chocolate candies and white decorator icing.
  • Use fondants, chocolate and candies to decorate the cake. Decorate the dinosaur’s surroundings with extra candies and fondants.
RECIPE TIPS

It takes some practice to get to the perfect shape of the cafe you want. Be patient and have an idea before you start cutting. Cut a small piece first. Please don’t try to cut big piece and get to the main shape at once!

MAKING IT DIFFERENT

You can add some fondants to make to look more beautiful. Change up the color to your child’s liking too!
